Detroit Lions TE Eric Ebron vents about negative fans on social media

Eric Ebron is fed up with the negativity.

As a regular user of social media, the Detroit Lions tight end has a open line to his fans. It also means he has a direct line to his critics. And after a disappointing rookie campaign, which saw the first-round draft pick catch just 25 passes, the 22-year-old Ebron gets more than his fair share of hecklers every time he sends out a tweet.

Sunday night, Ebron made an ill-advised decision to fire back at his anonymous critics.

An athlete getting into it with fans via social media is hardly new. Superstar cornerback Darrelle Revis had a lively back and forth with a fan on Instagram just this weekend. After those comments were picked up by multiple media outlets, Revis resorted to the classic defense that his account was hacked.

Even when the retorts are humorous, like when Portland Trailblazers guard Damian Lilliard burned a wisecracking fan, the athlete still looks foolish for stooping to that level.
